Get On Your Soapbox At Speaker's Corner

"It's the best place to listen and exchange ideas freely on Sundays," said my Iraqi friend.  This suggestion may sound weird, but going to Hyde Park can change even the strongest of views.

One of London's most unique events, The Speaker's Corner, is where Londoners engage in earnest, open conversations which can easily escalate into loud and contentious debates.

Wander through the crowds and pick and choose from a variety of topics from the media portrayal of Islam to the Explotation of Africa by the G8 countries. It's a veritable bastion of free thought and debate, and one of the gems in multicultural London.

Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner...

I don't know that I agree with the description of Speaker's Corner being a hidden gem. People have speaking here for more than 150 years. It is used a vehicle for free speech although the police have the power to intervene if they think some speeches are too inflamatory.
