The Changelings

Let it not be said that we're not media, er, working girls. As soon as we had to choose between principles and publicity, we went for the latter.

So much for integrity.

It's not as bad as it sounds. Actually, it's worse. The change was made after the opportunity for shameless self-promotion had closed, so we stood to gain nothing by it.

Yet that's what we just did - for the second time today. Despite the fact that the sole reason we had generated any publicity at all was because we rubbished the freesheets, when they offered to publicise us if we'd play nice, we backed off. A day late.

The consensus was that the staff should function as a democracy, so we took a vote on the mission statement. And then another. And then another. And that was just this morning.

This afternoon, after professional advice cautioned us to return to our original mission and a few people recanted, we took another vote. And 8-6, we chose not to accept the mission it took us a month to create.

London Lite, take note. I can recommend eight people who will shine your shoes with their tongues. (Though I'll stop short of publicly naming and shaming.) Whether they'll be able to tear themselves away long enough to do any reporting is another story.

Perhaps they'd be better off in the civil service.  They certainly know how to toe the line.
